Pandora Rose Light as a Feather Ring (Pandora Rose Collection)

This Pandora jewellery blog discusses the recent trial release of the Pandora Rose. It specifically brings a showcase of the new Pandora Light as a Feather Ring in rose gold.

Trollbeads aren’t the only brand to be sneaking out stealth releases at the moment. A couple of weeks ago a trial release of the Pandora Rose Collection appeared in just four stores worldwide. Stocks were incredibly limited with certain markets selling out in a couple of days primarily due to the combined efforts of Pandora collectors.

The Pandora Rose is, as mentioned, a trial release of rose gold plated products. A silver and copper mix has been used to create the actual charm. Atop of that is a 14 carat rose gold plating. The release has been met with mixed feelings from Pandora collectors. Many gold enthusiasts have felt Pandora are releasing fewer and fewer yellow gold or duo-tone charms and releasing a plated rose option seems to be inciting that group. Further to that is the issue of introducing a plated option. There are always two sides to this argument. For some it offers a more economical option for adding rose or yellow gold to a collection without the prohibitive price tag. For others it suggests a cheapening of the brand.

I adore rose gold and have for years before it become vogue again. It also suits my skin tone particularly well as I’m incredibly pale with pink undertones. Yellow gold by contrast can leave me looking a little washed out.

With the Copenhagen Flagship store being one of the five to receive stocks, my fiance dropped in a couple of weeks ago and brought me home a gift. I specifically decided to avoid the charms or the bracelet for now. Charms are subject to greater friction than some jewellery pieces and I was concerned about the durability of the rose gold. The Pandora Rose Bracelet is silver with a plated barrel clasp and again, I was concerned about the coating. Instead I was lusting after the Pandora Rose Light as a Feather Ring and what follows is a mini showcase.

Pandora Rose

The Pandora Rose Light as a Feather Ring is absolutely identical to it’s silver counterpart. This applies to all of the Pandora Rose products. The one exception being that the charms are not threaded on the inside.

The hallmark is naturally different considering the plating atop the silver copper mix.

I’m delighted with the ring itself. The Light as a Feather design is my favourite from the Pandora rings and the rose gold version is exceptionally pretty.

The products are all being sold with a card reinforcing the trial nature of the Pandora Rose range (and offering refunds should the product prove lacking in durability.)

Pandora Rose Rumours and Summary

I have a few rose gold plated pieces now, including my Rebeligion Horned Skull pictured below.

With plated jewellery must come the understanding that eventually the plating is likely to wear, leaving the option of paying for maintenance or replacing the piece. It does however offer a more economical option for those who love the more expensive metallics.

In regards to the future for Pandora Rose, I’m almost certain it will see a general release later in the year, perhaps with the Pandora Fall 2014 collection or as a dedicated release. Interestingly UK retailer Beadazzle replied to a query regarding Pandora Rose with the following.

While there have been rumours circulating that this is actually a solid gold version of this trial release, nothing to reinforce this rumour has been confirmed. Naturally Pandora wouldn’t need to trial a solid version as the durability wouldn’t be in question so it’s plausible that they’re planning both solid and plated versions of many products.

The Pandora Rose trial has come very close to Tiffany debuting their Rubedo range in celebration of their 175th anniversary. Whether Pandora are striving to emulate the jewellery giant is absolutely open for speculation but rose gold became massively on trend a couple of seasons ago and this could merely be their acknowledgement of that.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Pandora Rose collection and are you one of the lucky few who managed to obtain a piece or two? Are you a fan of rose gold and further to that, what are your thoughts on plated jewellery? Hit the comments and let me know!

Not a big fan of rings as have short fat fingers. But loving the introduction of all the Rose Gold charms. Maybe it is only me but is anyone else getting weary and apathetic to the brands releasing all these new items and collection with the title “Limited Releases”.With my dwindling bead budget am starting to not want the newest shiny bauble am thinking wait, don’t purchase that as there will be something I like better next week . Troll releases have been coming so fast and furious that one can hardly keep up. No sooner that we got the Valentines Heart, there was the Barrel bead there were Spring ,Easter, Mothers day , Cherry Blossom, Ocean and Pastel Jaspers, carved Lg & Sm Ambers,New styles Uniques and if that is not enough there is the Small and Beautifuls lurking in the background plus the production and older stuff we are trying to catch up on.

I know they are not expecting every collector /customer to buy every thing but goodness at least give us a chance to get stuff before they are ripped from under us. Trollbeads claimed that they would be making changes for2014 but this whirl wind thing that brands like Pandora and Troll are engaging in is making a market ripe for counterfeiters. Those sharks will fill the market to supply the needs of people who do not get the real ones .So many of us wanted the larger carved Ambers ,some could make the outright purchase while others had to save up the $273,as they were released first people spent monies on those and then the smaller $110 one were released of course no money to buy them and we could have had 2 to balance a bracelet for less than the price of one larger one.

I just wish collecting these brands could be more fun and being excited about new releases instead have us annoyed, stressed , frazzled and so much like a Hamster running around on it little toy wheel worried about juggling and missing bead purchases

      Hi Angela 🙂

Maybe it’s because I’ve been collecting now for so long, I really have no idea, but in the last few years I’ve become more relaxed about collecting. I have very few uniques compared to many people and while there are LOTS of S&Bs I would love, I can’t afford them so I don’t let it worry me. The same goes for Pandora. I usually manage to buy one or two charms per collection and that’s it. I was so so happy when my fiance bought me the Club Charm and then this ring as I hadn’t expected to manage either – and that’s okay for me. I don’t have it in me anymore to worry over jewellery. I have so many beautiful pieces and there’s always something else – no matter how much you buy. It makes me more selective about my Pandora purchases as new additions need to work with what I already have. There’s no point for me in buying a beautiful green murano when I have no green and I can’t really afford to collect a whole bracelet worth. Well I could.. over many years.. by which time there will be a new colour I prefer 😉

Looking back over the past couple of years – the carved ambers have been the worst for me. I *had* to have those. I spent so many years admiring them from afar that when they became available, it was no real question. I’ve missed nearly all of the most coveted uniques (I have a killer whale!) – despite this now being the second year I’ve stated I *must* get some navy galaxies 😀 I guess I better hope they come back in 2015 😉

Pandora Rose.. it’s not really being marketed as a limited edition – Pandora have been VERY careful about that. It’s absolutely stated as a trial release to gauge the popularity and, I suspect, the durability. It went out to ten stores in tiny quantities and that’s it. I’m pretty certain that unless something goes drastically wrong, it will make an appearance with the fall collection. It fits Pandora’s current aesthetic perfectly and at that stage there will be nothing limited about it 🙂

Last year I was genuinely struggling for the money to feed either myself or Victor following the loss of Jack (and the huge vet bills.) Maybe that has also made me more relaxed? If I can feed my pony, my cats and myself and preferably have some coffee to boot then I consider it a successful month these days 😀 Anything sparkly that comes my way either as samples or purchases I manage is the icing on the cake.

I do look at other peoples collections with envy – but it’s a nicer envy than it used to be for me 🙂

      /hugs

how does the pandora rose compare to the rebeligion rose gold plating?

    • endangeredtrolls

Well there’s a comparison image in the article so I’m not really sure what else I can say. The Pandora rose perhaps looks a little less thick but I don’t think it’s a fair comparison as the designs are so different.

The metal underneath the coating on the Pandora Rose is pink itself, where as the Rebeligion will be silver but ultimately, rose plating can and will wear off. It might take years, but it will happen.

      • melinda

it looks pretty similar to me, such a lovely color! do you love it?

        • endangeredtrolls

I do indeed love it but rose gold suits me and brings a nice change. Gold looks a bit odd on my skin sadly. I’m very pale with pink undertones and yellow gold doesn’t look so great on me. Rose on the other hand really works for me, yet I think it looks really weird on some other skin tones!

The composition is different since Pandora Rose are using a rose gold plating over a pink gold base so I’m hoping if or rather when it begins to wear the metal underneath should also be pink.

          Time will tell 😉

I will not buy gold plated pieces. It is better to get silver because once gold wears off it will look bad. And wear off is exactly what will happen. Charms, rings, bracelets, necklaces are not good plating candidates. I wish Pandora would expand their gold/ two tone pieces line. It seems they had better more expensive pieces in a past. In fact I am sticking to buying their retired gold and two tone charms and jewelry. Talk about that 18k rose gold abd diamond love pod ring. I had to get it. They need to bring that back. Instead they cheaping the brand. Bring more gold and semi precious stones. Stop being greedy snd lower prices just a bit.

    • endangeredtrolls

      Hi Isabelle,

Many agree with you regarding the plating of Pandora products and this test was definitely met with mixed feelings. If it interests you the Pandora Pre-Fall 2014 collection released on July the 31st will contain solid rose gold charms but.. they’re dangle symbols with cubic zironia and they’re really quite expensive in my opinion.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding Pandora’s new direction in general. Veteran collectors are yearning for more gold and the less “bling” designs of years gone by. What are your thoughts on all the pave charms?

      Kind Regards
      Victoria

    Hello Victoria
    Thank you for a reply
I a pretty new to Pandora believe it or not. But I have completed my bracelet in 2 mos. Sorry it was less about memory more about lovely pieces.
I do not mind cz but the pave balls are a mixed bag. Your first pic shows a rose gold clip? with pave heart. If the stones were diamonds I would probably add to the list of items I want. As long as it creates high end sophisticated look I am for it. I guess what I am trying to say only 1 or 2 paves per bracelet. The less the better.
My definite preference is for gold or gold and silver pieces. It creates better value and adds to a quality and timelessness of a piece. I am not too trendy of person and I love charm details. I do not see a big difference between a traditional charm bracelet and pandora. So I do not understand when people call them ” trendy fad”. I do not see them as such.
I know Pandora went we more expensive pieces several years ago abd it seems customers did not like that. Well I do not like cheap pieces. It seems they are positioning brand toward younger customers. I am not super excited about it. It they can keep or increase sophisticated designs and bring their profit margin down a bit I be very happy.
For now I will keep getting their retired pieces.

    Sorry for all the typos.

Hello! I absolutely adore the Pandora Rose line and got the Timeless Elegance ring as soon as it was released last 2016. I am somehow upset with the current state of my ring. After just a few months of use, the rose gold plating has faded 🙁 I already took the ring back to Pandora for cleaning but the Rose Gold band does not come close to the gorgeousness of a new one. Being a rose gold lover yourself, can you please advise on how to clean Rose Gold pieces apart from the little information on the Pandora page? Would really appreciate help.

    • endangeredtrolls

The thing is.. it’s not rose gold so that wouldn’t help regardless. It’s a plating which you need to be far more careful with when it comes to cleaning.
